These terms apply to the NikEdit application (“the software”) and to this web site (nikedit.nikkoid.com). They are an agreement between you and Nikkoid LLC (“we”, “us”). By downloading, installing or using the software, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the software.
1. Shareware licence
NikEdit is distributed as shareware. It is the property of Nicolas Choukroun and is distributed and licensed by Nikkoid LLC; you receive a right to use it, not ownership.
- Individuals may use the unregistered (evaluation) copy free of charge, without time limit, for personal and non-commercial purposes. The program shows a reminder that asks you to register. A personal licence (USD 9.50) removes the reminder and supports development; it covers all the computers its holder personally owns or uses.
- Companies and organisations (companies, self-employed professionals, administrations, associations, schools) and any commercial use need one company licence per seat. Prices per seat (USD): 1-9 seats 9.50, 10-24 seats 7.50, 25-49 seats 6.00, 50-99 seats 4.50, 100-199 seats 3.50, 200-499 seats 3.00, 500 seats and more 2.50. A seat is one computer on which NikEdit is installed or one user who uses it, whichever count is higher. See the buy page.
- A licence key is issued for a name and an e-mail address and is personal to its holder. It must not be published, shared outside its holder, sold or given away; a published key may be revoked in later versions. A licence is valid for the version purchased and, unless stated otherwise at purchase, for all later 1.x versions.
2. Your files are your responsibility
NikEdit edits files on your computer, locally. It saves atomically (write-then-rename) so that a crash cannot corrupt a file, but it does not keep its own backups and it does not synchronise your work to a cloud. Always keep your own regular backups of anything important. We cannot recover files you deleted or overwrote.
3. No warranty
The software and this site are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the software is free of errors or will work without interruption on every system.
4. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Nikkoid LLC and its author will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, profits or business, arising from the use of or the inability to use the software or this site. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the software, if any. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by contract.
5. Third-party components
The software includes open-source components, such as the Tauri framework and the Inter and JetBrains Mono fonts released under the SIL Open Font License. Each remains under its own licence.
6. Trademarks
NikEdit and Nikkoid are names of Nikkoid LLC. Windows, macOS, Linux and other names mentioned belong to their respective owners and are used only to describe compatibility or inspiration.
7. Privacy
How we handle information is described in the privacy policy.
8. Changes and termination
We may update these terms; the new version applies from the date shown at the top of this page. You can stop using the software at any time by uninstalling it. Your right to use the software ends automatically if you break these terms.
9. Contact
Nikkoid LLC. For any question about these terms, write to nikko@nikkoid.com, with NikEdit in the subject of your message.
