This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the NikEdit application and this web site. NikEdit is published by Nikkoid LLC (“we”, “us”).
In short
- NikEdit runs on your computer. It does not collect, send, sell or share your personal data.
- There is no account, no sign-in, no telemetry, no advertising and no analytics in the application.
- The only automatic network connection is the update check, described below.
The application
Your files
NikEdit opens, edits and saves files on the drives of your computer when you ask it to. All of this happens locally. The contents and names of your files are never sent to us or to anyone else.
Settings
Your preferences (skin, language, keyboard shortcuts, recent files, font size and the last files you used) are stored on your computer, in the application’s own storage. They never leave your computer. Config > Reset all settings deletes them; uninstalling the application removes the program, and you can delete its remaining data folder yourself.
Network and updates
The only automatic connection NikEdit makes is the update check: at start and then every minute, it requests https://nikedit.nikkoid.com/update.json over HTTPS to see whether a newer version is available. That request carries no personal data — only the standard technical information an HTTPS request carries (such as the IP address), which is used solely to return the current version information and is not used to identify you. Everything else is offline: NikEdit does not report errors or send usage statistics.
- When you click Visit the web site in the About box, this site opens in your web browser, which then follows its own privacy rules.
- When you start another program from NikEdit, that program follows its own privacy rules.
This web site
This site is a set of simple pages. It does not use cookies, analytics, advertising, social-media widgets or fonts from other companies. It remembers the language you choose in your browser’s local storage, on your device; this setting is never sent to us. The only outside script is Google Pay’s, on the buy page. The contact form is handled by our own server, which forwards the message to us by e-mail.
Like any web server, the server that hosts this site may automatically record technical information for each request, such as the IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, and the browser’s user agent. These logs are used only to run and protect the site and to count downloads, and are kept for a limited time according to the hosting provider’s practices. We do not combine them with other data and do not use them to identify you.
Buying a licence and contacting us
To deliver a licence we need the name and the e-mail address that the licence is made for. When you buy, this information, the licence type and the amount are kept in our list of licences to answer support questions and to send the key again if you lose it. We never sell or share it.
- Google Pay (buy page): the payment is handled by Google and its payment partner under their own privacy policies; the buy page loads Google’s payment script for that. We receive a confirmation of the payment, not your card number.
- Cryptocurrency: transactions are public on their blockchain. We use the transaction you send us only to match your payment and your licence.
- Contact form: your name, e-mail address and message are sent to us by e-mail so that we can answer, and are not used for anything else.
Children
NikEdit and this site are general-purpose tools and do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Because we do not collect personal data through the application or this site, there is normally nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you believe we hold information about you, for example because you wrote to us, contact us and we will answer your request under the laws that apply to you (such as the GDPR in Europe).
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
